Oak Hill man found with counterfeit money during burglary arrest

SCARBRO, W.Va. – An Oak Hill man is facing a felony charge after allegedly breaking into a home Wednesday.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department said they were dispatched to a Hunk Hill Road residence in the Scarbro area after the homeowner caught a man attempting to break into his home. Deputies found Israel Gilkey with the homeowner’s cell phone and credit card in his possession.

During the arrest, deputies also found “a large amount of counterfeit money”. The U.S. Secret Service responded to assist.

Gilkey has been charged with a felony count of Burglary. He is being held at the Southern Regional Jail after being unable to post $10,000 bond issued by the Fayette County Magistrate’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
