AMES HEIGHTS, W.Va. — Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley is warning the public after two people were arrested for allegedly using credit card “skimmers”.

Deputies responded Thursday to a report of people using equipment meant to scan cards for bank account information. The two suspects, from Florida, were found with the “skimmers”, computers and blank cards in their possession.

The U.S. Secret Service will assist the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department to determine if the individuals were able to steal personal information. Sheriff Fridley encourages all gas stations, convenience stores with ATMs and retail stores to check their machines closely for anything suspicious.

“They are commonly installed on gas pumps, ATMs and movie rental kiosks. If it looks suspicious, don’t use it!”

The “skimmers” look very similar to credit card swiping machines.
