About the Show


Fred Persinger II is a 25 year veteran of the radio business. Fred started working the overnight shift in his senior year of high school in 1990. He worked the overnight shift for 5 years on WTNJ before moving to nights and taking over the Music Director duties. Fred also became the Play-by-Play voice for the Oak Hill Red Devils in 1991. He then moved on to hosting the mid-day show before moving on to Adventure Radio in Bluefield in 2002. At Adventure Radio, Fred became the Program Director for 1440 AM WHIS and also Sports Director for a 7 station cluster that including covering 3 High School Teams, Three College Teams and minor league Baseball. Fred was also the Play-by-Play Voice for the Bluefield Beavers from 2001-2004.

In 2005, Fred moved back to Beckley to work at WJLS, where he hosted the mid-day show and became the play-by-play voice for the Shady Spring Tigers. During his first stint at WJLS he worked his way up to become the Program Director of the number 1 station in the market. He worked at WJLS until 2008, when he left Beckley and moved to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia to become the program director for Sports Radio 1340 WEPM. During his time in the Eastern Panhandle Fred help build the station into the leader for high school sports broadcasts in the Panhandle by broadcasting an average of 150 sports cast a year from the midget league football championships, little league baseball tournaments, to High School Football, Basketball, Baseball and Softball games for the 5 schools in the Panhandle. In 2010, Fred and his co-host Angela Orsini created a 2 hour sports talk show focusing on the high school sports in the Panhandle called In The Zone. In 2011, Fred became the program director for WICL and help make the transition from a oldies format to a Classic Country format.

In late 2012, Fred got the opportunity to come back home to Beckley to once again work at WJLS. This time he became the Operations Manager of the station and worked on the air from 10a-2p. Fred also got the chance to work for his father again who is the GM of the station and also fulfilled a childhood dream by becoming the Play-by-Play voice for his alma mater the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles.

Lives in Beckley with his lovely wife Jessica and step-daughter Paisley.
