The Oak Hill Police Department has concluded its investigation into a death reported earlier this week, determining the incident was not a criminal matter.

Emergency services were dispatched on January 7, 2026, to a residence at 113½ Riner Avenue in Oak Hill following a report of an injured female. Upon arrival, officers located an adult woman deceased inside the home. At the time, police said the cause of death was unknown and that an investigation was underway.

In an update released Wednesday, police said an autopsy conducted by the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office found no evidence of foul play. Preliminary results indicated the death was consistent with the woman’s medical history.

According to police, the medical examiner’s findings aligned with all other information gathered during the investigation. After reviewing the case in consultation with the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office, investigators determined the death was not the result of criminal activity.

The Oak Hill Police Department said the case is now considered closed and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.

No additional information has been released.
