CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Bluefield man wanted on multiple felony charges was apprehended Monday in Clarksburg.
According to authorities, 50-year-old Gary Eugene Wilson was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service near 215 West Main Street. Wilson was wanted by the Hinton Police Department on charges including attempting to commit a felony punishable by life in prison, wanton endangerment involving a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, and escape from custody.
Police allege that on December 16, Wilson traveled to a residence in Hinton and fired multiple rounds into the home while occupants were inside. Investigators say Wilson then fled the scene in a white truck.
Hinton Police, assisted by the Summers County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police, later located Wilson and the vehicle while executing a search warrant on Sand Knob Road in the Nimitz area. Authorities report that a firearm was recovered from the truck during the search.
After being transported back to the Hinton Police Department, Wilson allegedly slipped out of his restraints and fled from the office. Despite an extensive search, he was able to evade capture at that time.
Wilson was later apprehended in Clarksburg and processed by the Clarksburg Police Department. He is expected to appear in Harrison County court before being returned to Summers County to face the charges.
