A Lewisburg woman is facing charges after police say she abandoned her 14-year-old daughter at Walmart and was later found with items tied to drug distribution.
According to a criminal complaint, officers were called around 2 a.m. on September 26 after reports that the girl had been left alone. She told deputies her mother, 38-year-old Lola May Curfman, had left her at the store for an extended period.
Police later found Curfman at the Relax Inn with a man identified as Dustin Shorter, who fled on foot when officers arrived. A K9 search failed to locate him.
Deputies say a search of Curfman’s vehicle uncovered a backpack containing drug paraphernalia, small baggies, digital scales, cell phones, and hypodermic needles.
Curfman was arrested and charged with child neglect resulting in injury. She was taken to the Southern Regional Jail but has since been released on bond. Child Protective Services took custody of her daughter.
Deputies later obtained warrants for Shorter in connection with the incident.
