Woman faces federal fleeing charges after Route 19 chase

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — A woman who attempted to flee from Summersville Police on Friday morning is behind bars on federal charges.

Summersville Police Lt. Aaron Acree tried to stop Aretha Condner, of Florida, on October 10 for allegedly going 76 in a 50 mph zone. The chase started on Route 19 near the intersection with Starbuck Road. Officers pursued the vehicle at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The pursuit continued into Fayette County where the Fayette County Sheriffs Department and Fayetteville Police assisted. West Virginia State Police also assisted with the incident.

The chase ended when Condner’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. She and her 13 year-old daughter, who was a passenger,  were not injured.

Condner was placed under arrest and faces felony charges of Fleeing in a Vehicle with Reckless Indifference and Felony Child Neglect causing Risk of Injury. Her daughter is reportedly in the custody of Child Protective Services.
