FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A new program created by a group of Fayette County law enforcement agencies hopes to help students who may be having issues in the classroom because of outside situations.

Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley announced the program, titled “Handle with Care”, would create a network between various law enforcement agencies and Fayette County Schools. Police would provide information to schools if a student has been involved in a case that could cause them to act differently.

Sheriff Fridley said behavior changes connected to cases could be sleeping in class, acting out or crying.

“All agencies in Fayette County are now on board and on the same page regarding this program. School staff will be notified by police that a particular student needs to be Handled with Care”.

Only basic information such as the child’s name and age will be provide. The school will not receive details of the actual case.

Sheriff Fridley reminds the public they can always report incidents where a child may be exposed to dangerous situations.
