Fayette County funeral home engulfed in flames

GAULEY BRIDGE, W.Va. — A funeral home in Fayette County is recovering from a blaze early Saturday morning.

Gauley Bridge Fire Department Chief Damon Runyon told MetroNews affiliate WJLS his department responded to Pennington Funeral Home along Main Street at around 4:30 Saturday morning. Heavy, dark smoke was visible coming from the roof of the building.

Runyon also said his department was able to quickly extinguish the fire within 30 minutes. The blaze is still under investigation, but is believed to have originated in a heating unit above the bathrooms.

It is believed that about 2/3 of the building was damaged in the fire.

No injuries were reported in the blaze. In addition to Gauley Bridge; Gauley River, Boomer and Montgomery Fire Departments responded alongside Jan-Care Ambulance.
